The Battle of the Micellar Waters

In the past year, the blogging world has gone crazy for the brand new way to remove makeup and cleanse your skin - the micellar water. In fact, I've seen countless reviews of the Bioderma Crealine (Sensibio for everyone outside of France) hailing it as some kind of miracle worker, and claims that it takes your makeup off in an instant. However, in more recent months, there have been more and more of these 'holy grail' products coming out, one being by L'Oreal. In terms of price, Bioderma is around three times more expensive than the L'Oreal version - but is it three times more effective?

First up - Bioderma! I first bought their Micellar Solution last year, after seeing dozens and dozens of reviews on the stuff. The blogging community went crazy for it, saying it was some kind of miracle worker - and who am I to say no to a skincare miracle? I'd be silly not to give it a whirl. I was unsure of it at first - just how effective can a water be at taking off makeup? It turns out - very!

A few cotton pads soaked in the Bioderma micellar solution completely devoids my skin of any trace of makeup, so even when I'm feeling super lazy I can still manage it. Even waterproof mascara is helpless against it, it takes a few more cotton pads than usual but it comes off pretty easily without rubbing my eyes ten times over. As well as this, it doesn't leave my skin feeling tight or dry, it actually feels really fresh and as if it's had a really good clean - not bad for 'just a water'!

The most recent challenger for the Bioderma Micellar Solution is L'Oreal's Skin Perfection Micellar Solution. At less than a third of the price, I was originally a bit dubious about using it, as I wasn't sure if it would work as well as my Bioderma one - a bit of skincare snobbery from me, but I gave it a go as I didn't think it would do any harm.

Although it does remove my skin makeup, I feel like I have to really work it into my eyes so that my mascara and eyeliner comes off. That may just be me though, as I use waterproof mascara and gel eyeliner quite regularly, which are notoriously hard to remove anyway! However, the feel of my skin afterwards it very similar to how it feels after I've used Bioderma's Micellar Solution - fresh, clean and as if a weight has been lifted from it (namely a face full of makeup)!

Overall, the difference in these two relatively new 'miracle workers' lies mainly in the price. As I've mentioned above, the Bioderma Micellar Solution is around three times the price of L'Oreal's. However, I'm more inclined to recommend the more expensive of the two - purely because of the ease at which my makeup comes off! Eye makeup is a huge part of my routine, and with that in mind, I'd personally choose Bioderma. However, for those of you using standard mascara and eyeliner (or for those of you who need something friendlier to your purse!), by all means choose the L'Oreal Micellar Solution - it works brilliantly for a fraction of the price!

What are your thoughts on micellar waters? Do you use one? Let me know!
